STAR Malay Debate Team Shines at Prime Minister’s Cup Debate Championship

Mersing – 2025 – The Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) Malay Debate Team delivered an outstanding performance at the prestigious Prime Minister’s Cup Debate Championship, showcasing eloquence, critical thinking, and intellectual maturity on the national stage.
In the preliminary rounds, STAR emerged as one of the top-performing teams, securing three victories out of five debates, which earned them a spot in the octo-final round among the best teams in the tournament.
During the octo-final, STAR was drawn against Sekolah Menengah Sains Batu Pahat (SEHEBAT), the league champions. In a tightly contested and intellectually intense debate, STAR took the role of the government and defeated SEHEBAT with a close 2-1 judge decision, securing a place in the quarter-finals against Sekolah Seri Puteri (SSP).
The quarter-final match was equally competitive, with STAR again debating as the government and SSP as the opposition. Despite delivering a strong performance filled with well-structured arguments and persuasive rhetoric, STAR’s journey came to an end with a narrow 1-2 loss.
Although the team did not advance to the semi-finals, their campaign was marked by strategic brilliance, composure under pressure, and excellent teamwork. The school is incredibly proud of the team’s achievement at this national-level competition.
Congratulations to the STAR Malay Debate Team for their commendable performance, and for upholding the school’s legacy of excellence in public speaking and intellectual discourse.
